William Carlos William wrote the following beautiful poem:
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
I imagined this painting, but instead of William's soothing apology, I wanted to show what it would be like in the mouth of an old partially deaf Jew (Velvel) ("So I ate the plums? So I ate the plums. They were SWEET, no Chanie, SWEET, not beets. No, I didn't eat the beets. I told you I ate the plums..."
